Die zwei Systeme werde ich mal weiter vergleichen (andere Benchmarks). Als nächstes
ist ein Distrievergleich geplant (Gen2VDR 1.1 , Gen2VRD V2, V2 P4, V2 AMD, ...). 
Ein Option die Testergebnisse zu speichern oder online zur Verfügung zu stellen besteht auch. Einzelheiten des Systems wie Hardware und Distrie sind dabei.

ein Test auf Ubuntu Studio 8.04 64-bit zeigte einen guten ersten Eindruck.
Blender brachte ~100%Geschwindigkeitsgewinn beim Rendern des Bildes.

... habe ich da ein wenig den Zusammenhang/Überblick verloren? 
HDTV benutzt aktuell ffmpeg als Software-Decoder für die Wiedergabe?
Ein "phoronix-test-suite run ffmpeg" testet aber nur wie schnell eine avi codiert wird, wenn ich das richtig gesehen habe.
Findet jemand eine Möglichkeit einen Decoder in fps und Auflösung zu testen?
P.s. ... vielleicht noch etwas zu phoronix-test-suite version 1.0 beitragen (Tests in Bezug zu Decodern, bessere db/Suchfunktion für Testeinsicht, ...).

Müsste sich machen lassen.
Der Mencoder kann afaik auch in ein unkomprimiertes Video encodieren. Wenn du den so mit einem mpeg2-Video fütterst wird das dann nur dekodiert. Jetzt noch mit "time" die Zeit stoppen, das wars.
Das geht so, oder so ähnlich sicher auch mit xine oder ffmpeg zu machen.

Ich benutze zum ansehen normalerweise Xine mit den Deinterlacern von tvtime.

das mit dem benchmark geht auch einfacher
xbmc drauf ´mit debugmodus
dann zeigt er oben die cpu auslastung
und bei einblenden der medieninfo
video datenrate format auflösung audio bitrate etc an

Hallo Daniel,
bei mir, unter Gentoo, kann ich xbmc.bin nicht im debugmodus starten.
(x-y-Taste drücken beim Start von der Konsole bringt auch nicht viel, außer Buchstabensalat)
Phoronix-test-suite finde ich gut, weil mehrere Tests hintereinander ablaufen können, man einen Bezug zu anderer Hardware hat und das ganze in einem Diagramm darstellen kann.

Hmmm , dein Test ist eigentlich wenig aussagekraeftig.
Das beim Rendern dein 64-Bit Linux vorne liegt war schon vorher klar,
schliesslich kann dein 32-Bit Linux die 4 GB Speicher garnet nutzen und
das macht ja nun ne Menge aus beim Rendern.
Da bei Softdecodern ja nun net soviel Speicher in Anspruch genommen
wird , denke ich mal , dasses Jacke-die_Hose ist was fuer nen
"bitiges" OS du einsetzt.

Ja klar..laesst sich ne MEnge rausholen...
Mich wundert nur das extreme Verhaeltnis bei deinem Rendertest , dass du alleine mit nem
64-Bit System die doppelte Performance hast.
Normalerweise solltest du nur nen geringfuegigen Speedvorteil bei 64-Bit haben, wenn
beide Systeme insoweit identische Optimierungen (Compilerflags.etc) gesetzt haben.
Soviel ich weiss isses ja nur ein bit pro Taktzyklus mehr bei 64-bit und eben die
Speicheradressierung.
Das mit der Ram-Geschichte nehme ich auch zurueck , jetzt wo ich gesehen habe was da gerendert wird. Ist ja nen "pippifax" Bild

Wenn man mal vom größeren Adressraum absieht, gibt es bei 64bit Code genau zwei wesentliche Unterschiede: Mehr Register. Und Parameterübergabe in Registern (statt via Stack) als Default. 64bit-Multiply ist bei RSA und Co. interessant, im allgemeinen eher nicht. Und alles, was mit Video-Decoding zu tun hat, läuft eh als SIMD. Dafür wird der Code ein bisschen größer (aber weil bei AMD jemand nachgedacht hat, und Intel das kompatibel übernommen hat, nur ein wirklich kleines bisschen)

das Beste wird es wohl sein, ein Ubuntu Studio 8.04 32-bit herunter zu laden und direkt mit der 64-Bit zu vergleichen (oder vorhandenes Sidux, war glaube ich 32-Bit und 64-Bit auf einer DVD). Klar ich schätze auch den Performancegewinn geringer ein, aber mal sehen.
Das Verhältnis ist wahrscheinlich so groß, da ich die CFLAGS in Gen2VDR 2.0 auf Pentium4 gesetzt und alle Packete neu übersetzt bzw. aktualisiert hatte. Vielleicht habe ich damit ein paar Bremsen eingebaut.
In Debian finde ich CFLAGS nicht ...
Den Unterschied zwischen Gen2VDR 1.1 und 2.0 würde ich auch gerne mal in einer Grafik sehen /zeigen können. ... ist den Test wert.
